True to Nature for international broadcaster

Finding stories, setting up shoots, writing risk assessments, and writing scripts for an ambitious upcoming presenter-led marine-based series. Shoots include presenter based science shoots and blue-chip natural history shoots.

Shooting Researcher – One Zoo Three; Jan. 2021 – July 2022

True to Nature for CBBC

With presenters Cam, Aaron, and Tyler Whitnall. Finding stories based on activities and animals at their zoo, developing animal characters, and shooting second camera on Sony FS7 and Sony A7SIII. Access negotiation and setting up of additional shoots to other zoos within the UK and internationally. Writing scripts for both sequences and entire episodes. Managing of an archive-based strand, involving creation of numerous paper edits for short conservation-focused stories based on a large quantity of historical footage provided by the presenters.

Shooting Researcher – Deadly Predators; July 2021 – Jan. 2022

BBC Studios for CBBC

With presenter Steve Backshall. Finding and developing unique and creative ways to demonstrate animals’ abilities, sourcing new technology and securing unique locations. Solo recces and extensive location work on a wide variety of shoots, including CGI, studio, boat, night, and rope access shoots. Second camera filming with Sony FS7 and Sony X70. Working closely with talent as part of a large team. Script-checking, extensive use of BBC Archive systems, and helping in the edit. 

Researcher – Hidden Wonders of Europe; July 2020 – July 2021

Off The Fence Productions for NatGeo WILD

Finding and developing stories for a blue-chip wildlife series. Working with local fixers, researchers, and camera talent while setting up sequences and shoots during COVID-19 travel restrictions. Archive research and sourcing, writing risk assessments, developing scripts for shoots and the edit, and extensive data management of rushes from numerous shoots.

Oak Island Films for BBC2

With presenter Gordon Buchanan. Development pre- and post-commission, liaising with scientists and contributors to set up stories, sequences, and shoots. Solo recce of remote Southern Africa location. Running, camera assisting, and data ingestion on location during shoot. Working closely with producers, commissioners, and talent.

Student Film for MA Wildlife Filmmaking

Fully researched, edited, and produced a short documentary about the U.S. pet tiger trade. Negotiation of unprecedented access. Self-shot on Sony-FS5 and edited with Adobe Premiere Pro. Recognised in multiple film festivals:

Researching and running for multiple short films broadcast on The One Show (BBC1). Research and story development for upcoming films, shooting with Sony FS7 and GoPro, working with talent.

Independent Production – City of Nature Challenge – May 2019

Bristol Natural History Consortium

Produced and edited a short commissioned video for the Bristol Natural History Consortium about the City of Nature Challenge, screened publicly during the Bristol Festival of Nature 2019. Self-shot on Sony-FS5.

Doghouse Post-Production LTD – Jan. 2018

I undertook work experience at Doghouse Post-Production LTD, Bristol, assisting runners and sitting in on grading, voice overs, and sound mixing.

Silverback Films Blue – Nov. 2017

Logging rushes, brainstorming sequence junctions, and observing editing on Avid while shadowing an AP working on a ‘making of’ film.

Volunteer Experience

Marine Conservation in Thailand

Carried out in Summer 2013. Caring for turtles in a biological research sanctuary, visiting local schools to educate children on the importance of local wildlife protection, and beach and underwater cleanups and surveys were just some of the tasks I performed over a period of two weeks. While here, I learned to SCUBA dive and gained my PADI Open Water Diver qualification.

Education Support Volunteer at WWT Barnes Wetland Centre

Carried out in Summer 2013. Assisting with educating the public about wetlands and their importance. Primary responsibilities were preparing and assisting with educational craft activities for children, and assisting members of the public with bird identification in the hides.
